There is help available for people addicted to prescription drugs. There are countless inpatient and outpatient programs around the world that are specifically created to help people kick their drug addictions. These programs usually include detox centers, psychologists, and often include safe alternative substances to help curb withdrawal symptoms. The level of treatment needed depends on the length and severity of the addiction. It is important that people realize that some type of treatment or rehabilitation is always a good idea. Outpatient Drug Treatment
Outpatient drug treatment is a lower intensity alternative program to long-term inpatient treatment. These are comprehensive, multifaceted, highly individualized programs designed to address chemical dependency issues of individuals while remaining in their homes. Outpatient drug treatment is more educational than therapeutic. Outpatient drug treatment is given to those individuals who need a supportive environment. Outpatient drug treatment is mainly grouped into three: outpatient individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy. These would include problem-solving, insight-oriented psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, 12-step program, etc.

Anger Management, a Neglected Topic in Substance Abuse Intervention
A long standing issue
Problems managing anger has always been a concern for patients suffering from addictive disorders. Pioneering research by my mentor, Dr. Sidney Cohen at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute demonstrated the relationship between, anger, violence and the use of alcohol and or cocaine. One of the most popular articles written by Dr. Cohen, was entitled, Alcohol, the most dangerous drug known to man . In this and other publications, Dr. Cohen systematically demonstrated the causal relationship between cocaine and alcohol abuse and aggression. Much of this research was done in the 70s and 80s.
